How do you keep fruit flies or gnats out of your iguana tank?

I have my iguana in a 30 gallon tank and about 15 minutes after i put food in the tank there are at least 5 fruit flies in there. And also i want to know how i could make him pick up weight faster he is about 7 months old he gets longer but he doesn’t seem to get any fatter any tips?
I keep the cage clean its cleaned every week and the food is not decaying i put it in and after 15 minutes there are fruit flies there.
